he’s definitely very stressed. angry, but without a true place to focus the energy. he pours himself into planning revenge on the person & club who took out dom sr. 

after the meeting he’s okay. more agitated and short in his responses, but that’s understandable. it’s only later in the day when people are still kind of hanging around the house that his mood really starts to darken. you kick everyone but chibs & matty out before sonny can implode or explode, though, so that he can have a semblance of privacy.

I think the very several months of sonny being the president are…bloody as he searches for a way to reconcile his father’s death.

When you got to the top of the stairs Matty turned to look at you from his seat on the floor next to the bathroom door. You walked over and squeezed his shoulder gently before he got to his feet with a quick glance at the closed door. He wrapped you in a tight hug and you patted him on the back, the sound muffled by the worn in leather of the cut. Ducking to kiss you on the top of the head briefly he pulled away and led you a few feet away from the door.

“Didn’t expect to see you here so early,” he said quietly and although it wasn’t unusual to him so serious, there was an edge of concern at the edges of his face.

The front door of the house was opening before you were even fully out of the car, with Chibs’ silhouette framed behind the glass window. You took the steps two at a time, feet more than familiar with the worn brick path that led from the driveway up the stairs to the porch and the front door. He opened the door for you and opened his arms to you in one smooth motion and you fell into him gratefully. Your eyes closed briefly as you inhaled his leather, tobacco and clean soapy scent. Under the circumstances you were thankful for the steadiness of his presence and you felt grounded before even stepping into the entryway before he pulled away from you and beckoned you inside.

You gave him a faint smile that he barely returned, one slight lift of a corner of his mouth the only indicator that he had seen it. The air in the house felt stale and heavy with the taste of grief diffusing into the space like bad aromatherapy. It was cloying and you fought to remain impenetrable, if not for yourself then for Sonny.

“Earlier than I thought you’d be,” Chibs said gruffly and nodded and flashed back to the several cans of energy drinks that were currently littering your otherwise clean car.
