Tears spilled from Nick’s eyes, making your heart clench. You had only witnessed him cry a hand full of times. On your wedding day, when your kids were born, at his Dad’s trial and when his abuela passed away. He pulled you into him, resting his head on your chest. You cradled his head and placed kisses to his hair.
Nick sat up, and cupped your face in his hands. “I wish I could take that whole night back. It has haunted my every waking hour. Every night when I go to bed, I just lie there watching you sleep. I wonder if you will ever forgive me. If we will ever get back to how were before. And I pray to God you’re still there when I open my eyes the next morning.”
Sighing deeply, you placed your hands over his and pulled them close to your heart. “Nick. What happened was…It hurt bad. My heart, my trust, everything I knew seemed to be broken.“

You held your hand up to halt his comment. “No. I’m not done. You said you were afraid I’d leave. Truthfully, I almost did. I had bags packed for me and the kids and reservations at a hotel. I wrote you a letter, Nick.” You shifted from his lap to sit beside him in the couch.
Nick took a shaky breath. His eyes were wide with fear. “So, I did almost lose you. God.” He rested his head in his hands.
You were quiet for a few moments, letting your confession sink in. Reaching for Nick’s hand you entwined your fingers with his. “Nick. I love you and I love our family. I forgive you for that night. I know you have suffered too. I just need more time
Nick nodded. "Whatever you need. However long you need, cariño. I love you.” Nick raised your hand and kissed your knuckles.
