Imagine: Sonny Carisi sitting on the edge of a bridge on a warm summer day. Basketball shorts flap a little in the Santa Ana winds, making a sound like birds’ wings. The sun is starting to pink his pale shoulders, not covered by the muscle tank he borrowed from his husband, to the same shade as the frozen pink lemonade he sips from a thick red straw. Beside him, Nick Amaro takes off his baseball hat because it’s too warm and slides his aviators onto his face to protect against the piercing rays of the sunset their faces are turned to. Here, settled in California, they are happy and free.
Cooking with a 6 year old, 4 year old, 1 year old and a 1 month old infant was proving to be difficult. Today was Sonny’s birthday and you were determined to actually make a real meal. The last month had been nothing but reheated, frozen casseroles, take out, or anything that would cook in a microwave. Sonny insisted he didn’t care, but you did. So, you planned to make lasagna using his Ma’s recipe, salad and garlic bread. His favorite cake, German Chocolate was also on the menu.
The house was total chaos when Sonny got home, which was normal. The oldest boys, Ryan and Thomas, were running around shooting one another with Nerf darts. Ethan, your one year old, was sitting in the high chair knocking Cheerios to your dog Jonesy, laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world . Nicholas was asleep in his carrier on the counter beside you while you iced the cake.
You had just put the bread in the oven, when Sonny entered the kitchen. He picked Ethan up from his high chair and kissed his chubby cheek. When Nicholas started fussing he put the binky back in his mouth and rocked the carrier gently.
“What’s cookin’ good lookin’?” Sonny asked as he dropped a kiss to your temple. “Is that lasagna and German Chocolate?” His eyes sparkled.
“Sure is. Happy birthday, babe.” You smiled up at Sonny.
Sonny tucked a loose piece of hair behind your ear. “You get more beautiful everyday.” He ducked his head giving you a scorching kiss. Sonny smiled then pecked another kiss to your lips before pulling back.
You cleared your throat. “Go change birthday boy.” You swatted his butt when he walked away. He turned a gave you an amused look. “You’ll get the rest later,” you said and winked.
This had been a major issue between you and your Dad. It caused a major strife in your already strained relationship. There was some bad blood between Ben and your Dad. It happened years before when you and Peter were kids. You didn’t even know your families knew one another until that day. Your Dad assumed Peter was like his father which was far from the truth.
After you and Peter got married and had kids, they at least tried to get along for your sake and for the kids.
A couple of years before you and Peter got married, you broke up for a short time, about three months. The two of had a huge fight that started over something stupid. Peter had an affair during that time with a woman named Joan, who was separated from her husband. (I’m using part of a storyline from Chicago Justice.) Peter told you about the whole thing when the two of you started talking and working things out. You were hurt but glad he was honest with you.
Almost two years ago, the affair was going to be made public by a journalist that Peter was going to subpoena to testify. While you knew the truth, Joan never told her husband. Your Dad was concerned about your reputation and that you’d be humiliated. That was a whole other fight between you, your Dad and Peter.
Peter’s recent drinking is not sitting well with him.
The upcoming issue that Peter is being accused of sexual harassment is going to just add to the tension.
takes place after this and GOD BLESS YOU for wanting more from this verse!! it’s one of my faves, tbh. 🙂

“Alright, I’m going to bed,” Nick announced stiffly from his place next to you on the couch.
Sonny tensed on the other side of you and you suppressed the heavy sigh threatening to escape. Nick pressed a kiss to your temple and squeezed your leg before standing to his feet. He stretched a little and tossed a goodnight over his shoulder, avoiding Sonny’s eye just as he had been for the past two days.
“Night, babe,” you called softly and Nick turned and gave you a small smile before started towards the hallway. Sonny muttered something under his breath and Nick froze, turning on his heel with a tilt of his head.
“Didn’t quite catch that,” Nick said coldly. You grimaced and went to open your mouth, hoping to intervene before things could get worse.
“Don’t you think this has gone a little too far?” Sonny asked in a louder voice bluntly, beating you to the punch. You closed your mouth and turned to look up at Nick cautiously. He smiled coldly and scoffed.
You smiled when you heard the front door open, tugging your sweatpants on after just having beat the boys home. As you stripped your shirt off the door slammed, hard enough to make the entire apartment shake, and the smile on your face quickly turned into a frown. You had just pulled on your shirt roughly, exiting the bedroom and heading down the hall when you caught the tail end of what Nick was saying.
“…don’t even want to look at you right now, let alone talk to you!” he hissed at Sonny as he roughly pulled off his tie. Sonny’s face looked distraught and you quickened your pace to get closer to them and figure out what was going on.
“Nick, I’m sorry. Come on, you know how it is. I—” Sonny started to apologize with a hand reaching out to still Nick’s rough movements. Nick jerked his arm away, nearly colliding into you as he finally realized you were home. He course corrected hastily, sparing you a quick kiss to the forehead before he turned back to Sonny with hands on his hips.

“how many of these do we have to make again?” nick called out from the kitchen. he brought another cookie to his mouth and bit down with a pleased look.
