It is half past noon, the jacket you are wearing fights back the cold, late-autumn breeze that blows as you walk the bustling sidewalks of New York. The skies are bright, minimal tufts of white clouds scattered around the vast blue of the sky that looks as if it’s being poked by all the tall buildings. This is something new to you, Chicago was nothing compared to this and you’d only been in New York for a day.
You were here on a mission, after being sent troubling news you packed up a few bags and hit the road — well, you went to the airport but that’s beside the point — no particular plan in mind other than rolling with the punches. Rolling with the punches is something you’ve become no stranger to when it comes to jumping in to help out your friend through the years and you are prepared for the fight he is more than likely going to put up. Okay, maybe not a fight but definitely some pushback but you are not taking ‘no’ for an answer.
Stopping in front of a building, you look down at the address on your phone and smile when you see that it matches the address on the building. With a readying sigh, you adjust your jacket and walk up the stairs and into the building. Once you make it to the floor you were told he’d be on, you walk straight to the secretary’s desk with a large smile on your face.
“Well hello Darling, you must be Carmen.” You say, extending your hand to shake hers.
“I am, and you are?” She asks politely, standing to her feet and shaking your hand.
“I’m y/n, an old friend of Peter’s. Is he in?” You ask, clasping your hands in front of you.
“Seems like I’m always in.” You hear his familiar voice call out and you can’t help but smile, turning in the direction it’s coming from. “To what do I owe this pleasure.”
“Oh trust me, you won’t be seeing this visit as a pleasure as soon as I tell you why I’m here, mister all-work-no-play.”
“I probably should have hidden the moment I saw you.” He smiles, walking out of the doorway of his office and toward you, wrapping you in a hug. “Come, let’s talk in here.” He says, nodding back toward the door.
