You heard Sonny’s footsteps behind you as you continued to stir the skillet on the stove. He and Nick had both just arrived at home, and it was time of being together for so long that made you able to tell the difference in how they walked. Sonny’s footsteps tended to be louder, heavy and a little more fluid. Nine times out of ten Nick ended up startling you if he didn’t announce himself because he was so light on his feet.

Sonny pressed a kiss to the back of your head as he passed by and you smiled and turned to look at him. “Long day?” you asked. You watched in amusement as he leaned dramatically against the counter and brought a hand up to his forehead.

“The longest, doll. The longest,” he replied in a weary tone.

You made a clucking noise in sympathy and pulled away from the stove for a moment to press a kiss to his lips. He chased your mouth and pulled you into another kiss which you allowed for a beat before you pulled out of his grip and went back to the stove.
