“We should do a couple’s costume!”
////////
“We should do a couple’s costume!” Sonny mumbled excitedly around a mouthful of popcorn. You and Nick both shot him a disgusted look for talking with his mouth full.
“A what now?” you asked as you ate popcorn at a more sedated pace.
You were sitting between the two of them on the couch in the midst of one of the Halloween movie marathons on television. The best part about being in the middle, aside from being cuddled between them, was that the popcorn sat in your lap the entire time and that you were in the center of the blanket covering your legs. To your right Nick was wearing one of Sonny’s oversized and butter soft flannel shirts and to your left Sonny was wearing one of Nick’s college sweatshirts. You had wanted to comment on how cute you found it, but you smartly kept the observation to yourself and made a mental note to snap photos later.
“A couple’s costume! For the Halloween party,” Sonny repeated impatiently.
“We’re not a couple,” Nick pointed out slowly as he lazily waved a finger between the three of you. “Unless this is your way of breaking up with me.” You glowered at Nick because that joke never got any funnier, no matter how many times he made it. He hastily shoved a fistful of popcorn in his mouth and turned back to the television.
“Nick has a point,” you agreed begrudingly. “We’re not a couple. We’re a…throuple? Threesome? What do you call a couple that involved three people?” you wondered aloud.
“Who cares,” Sonny complained and you elbowed him in retaliation. “My point is that we should all go as a coordinating costume.”
“Like what?” you asked skeptically.
“I don’t know. I have to come up with all of the good ideas around here?” he complained again. You laughed and leaned against him.
“It was your idea,” Nick mumbled. Now it was Sonny’s turn to glower at him and he smartly kept his mouth shut.
“Peanut butter and jelly?” Sonny suggested and you made a face. “Okay…what about an Oreo? The Three Stooges…uh, A lion, a witch a wardrobe? The Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion?” he continued to reel off. With each suggestion your frown deepened and you shook your head.
“I don’t like any of those ideas,” you told him bluntly. Sonny sighed against you and Nick shifted under the blanket.
“I agree,” Nick started and you felt Sonny wilt a little more. “I don’t like any of those ideas…but I do think a couple’s costume, or whatever, is a good idea.” You turned to him with surprise and you could practically feel Sonny thrumming with excitement.
“You mean that?” Sonny asked with a growing smile. Nick nodded and looked over at the two of you.
“I do. And what about Cleopatra, Marc Antony and Julius Casear?” Nick suggested with a little shrug. You and Sonny remained silent for a moment. Sonny started nodding slowly and his smile continued to spread.
“That’s…a great idea,” you admitted with a surprised face. “Brilliant, as a matter of fact.”
“Was Sonny’s idea,” Nick brushed off. “I just built on it.”
“We make a good team,” Sonny and he leaned over you to press a kiss to Nick’s cheek. Nick pinked a little and you pretended to pout.
“Excuse me, I’m feeling a little left out,” you whined. A moment later they both pressed kisses to opposite cheeks and you smiled as you tried to escape whoever had started tickling you.
