Soothing your T-shirt over your belly, your brow furrowed as you turned side to side to look at yourself in the mirror. Peter looked at you over his glasses. He set his book down and grinned. “What’s up buttercup?” Peter inquired.
You rolled your eyes at the expression and sighed. “Does my stomach look big?” Turning your gaze to Peter at his silence your raised a brow. “Are you going to answer my question?”
“Sounds like a trap”, Peter joked. He pushed the comforter back and joined you looking in the mirror. “ Well, shouldn’t you have a baby bump by now? You did early with both Julian and Audra. But you know your body best, only second to me.” He nuzzled your neck.
You swatted him away, ‘I’m being serious, Peter. I’m only 8 weeks and already showing. I didn’t show with Julian and Audra until at least 12 weeks.” Sighing you shrugged your shoulders and turned to go to bed.
“Julian sure was excited when we told him about the baby.” Peter shut off the bedside lamp. “He asked if he can name the baby Roscoe after the class pet guinea pig.”
“Audra kept poking my stomach saying, ‘baby in Mama’s belly.” Her sweet voice brought a smile to your face.
“Your appointment is at 11AM tomorrow, right?”, Peter asked as the two of you snuggled under the covers.
“Yeah.11AM. You’re coming right?”, you said sleepily.
“Wouldn’t miss it”, he kissed your temple as you drifted off to sleep.
“Is this your first?”, the sonographer asked as she readied the ultrasound.
“Number three”, Peter smiled. “We have a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
She grinned. “Sweet age. Are they excited?“She made small talk while she finished getting the ultrasound ready.
”Our son is. He wants a brother.” You responded.
“As you know, it’s too early to tell the sex but we’ll be getting measurements, confirming due date”, the sonographer explained as she started the scan.
Peter squeezed your hand when you heard the fast, strong heartbeat. You turned to see his ridiculous big grin.
When you looked back at the sonographer, she had an amused expression on her face. She turned the monitor so both of you had a better view. “There are your babies.”
Your brows shot up. Did you say, babies? As in more than one?“ Sliding your gaze to Peter, he had the same confused expression.
“Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Stone. You’re having twins.”
“Twins. We’re having twins. Holy shit.” Peter’s voice was quiet. “Sorry for my language. I’m just-”
The sonographer laughed. “Believe me. You’re not the first to have that reaction. I’ll print you some pictures.” She handed you the pictures and exited the room
“Twins.” You started laughing. “I can’t believe we’re…” Laughter took you over.
Peter slid his gaze to you. Your laughter was contagious. “I keep looking around for the hidden camera.” Peter placed a hand gently on your abdomen. “That explains this belly.” He teased you and winked.
“A gentleman you are not.” You said with fake indignation. Taking his proffered hand, you sat up. “After I get dressed you owe me lunch, mister.”
“Can I have one of these for my desk?” Peter perused through the sonogram pictures, tracing the images with one finger.
“Yeah. We’ll stop and grab a frame after lunch.” You were still a little shell-shocked, but excited.
Peter slung an arm around your shoulders. “Let’s get some lunch and talk about names. I’d like to put Fabio back on the table.”
