Veronica looked around with an impressed look before meeting Razor’s eye again. The restaurant he had chosen was one of the nicer Italian places and although he’d said he was going to take her out, part of her still figured he’d take her to get food from one of the food trucks in town. He’d insisted on riding his bike so the two of them had arrived separately, but he had opened her car door after she arrived and pulled out her chair at the table.
“You look surprised,” Razor commented in an amused tone as he nudged her menu in her direction. She picked it up and flipped it open. The waiter had already taken their drink order, but that was as far as they had gotten thus far.
“You remembered I said I like Italian food,” Veronica said lightly in lieu of answering. She dropped her gaze down to the menu for a moment before looking back up at him. Razor was bitting his bottom lip slightly, but he dropped it when she looked at him.
“You said Italian food was your favorite,” he pointed out with a smirk. “I listen. I’ve never actually been here,” he admitted with a shrug, “but I heard it was good.”
“It’s great. I’ve been here only a handful of times,” she replied with a pleased smile.
They took a few moments to look over the menus, stealing glancing at each other the entire time, before finally ordering when the waiter came back. Hands free and with nothing to do there was a nervous energy between them before Razor broke it.
“So. For our second date do you think we should do Italian again or something else?” he teased. She shook her head and tossed some hair over her shoulder as she laughed a little and felt herself relax.
“We have to see how well this one goes first,” she reminded him. He smirked and smoldered at her and she fought the urge to squirm.
“Nah, this one’s going to be great. I already know,” he replied confidently. She shrugged a little as if to say ‘maybe’ and he laughed and slouched in his chair about. “So, Veronica. Tell me a little bit about yourself. What made you decide to be a massage therapist?”
“Well, I grew up here,” she started and when he looked surprised she gave him a faint smile. “Went to the same high school as the mayor, Diego. Moved away after high school. My parents had a…hard time…with my transition. So I went away to school and learned about myself and made friends and enjoyed living someplace where people didn’t know me as anything different. It was nice,” she added in a bit of wistful tone before shaking her head.
“I liked the idea of being able to help people in a non verbal way, you know? Listen to their bodies and respond. Graduated from college and started working. I had a really amazing job, cute apartment, nice life, to be honest. But, my parents are getting older and my older brother moved away, too. They were here alone and I decided to come back. I, um, was all set to get some low paying boring job when I got back. Or have a long commute to something, but then I got word of the massage parlor and…that was that,” she filled in.
“I’m going to kiss Sonny on the mouth the next time I see him,” Razor breathed and Veronica laughed and playfully smacked his arm. “No, I’m serious. I’m just going to plant one on him in thanks. I’ve heard I’m a very good kisser so I think it will get my point across,” he teased.
“I think his old lady will have your balls. She does not seem like the type to share,” Veronica pointed out with a laugh. Razor winced around a grin.
“True. She probably knows the correct way to do it, too!” he laughed and she nodded. “Guess I’ll have to just give him a heartfelt thanks and kiss you instead.” Veronica blushed a little and dropped her gaze and Razor smiled and reached for her hand, not even dropping it when the food arrived.
Awww ..I love that we got a little background on veronica too. I love this couple!
