The next morning you awoke before Sonny, slipping from slumber to wakefulness between one breath and another. You immediately turned your head to make sure he was right next to you and sighed a big sigh of relief when you saw that he was still sleeping heavily. Sonny’s face was facing you on his pillow and his breathing was still coming heavier than usual. You were happy he was still asleep because you knew that his impending hangover was going to hurt. You winced a little as you remembered some of the things he had said last night when his guard was done. Reaching over you pushed some of his hair back from his face, drinking him in for a few more minutes before you carefully pushed to your feet.

Your first stop was to the bathroom before you headed down the hall and to the kitchen. Sonny had bought a case of ginger ale for the nausea you get while you were on your period and there were a few cans left in the refrigerator. You were struck by the fact that he still had your cycle memorized, even when the two of you had been dancing around each other in this house. You decided to grab a sleeve of crackers before you exited and you had a small flashback to after Dom Sr. died. Sonny’s drinking had taken on a life of its own and it was only by the skin of your teeth that you’d managed to keep it from spiraling. Finding out that he had been drinking again, by himself, and then navigating home was still tough for you to even wrap your mind around. You wanted to wrap him up in a comforter and never let him leave the house again.

You sighed and walked slowly back down the hallway to the bedroom. You startled when you pushed the door open and Sonny was fully awake and sitting up in bed looking around wildly. He sagged and made a relieved noise when he saw you and you frowned and came over to set the ginger ale, crackers and painkillers on his bedside table before urging him to lay back again.
