The welcome home from the war wasn’t what Sonny expected. Sure, he was happy to see his family when he got off the ship and have a nice meal with them, but things weren’t the same. He wasn’t human anymore and he needed to stop pretending like he was. So, he went to a bar down the street from where is family was to meet up with Giovanni.
“Nice seeing your family?” Giovanni asked. Sonny chuckled and nodded.
“My sister, Teresa, has a little girl named Mia. So beautiful.” Sonny said as he stared at the glass in his hand.
“My wife was so happy to see me. Greeted me right off the boat with a hug. God, I missed her.” Giovanni said. Sonny nodded before his head popped up. He smelled something, something metallic. As he glanced around, he noticed a guy had gotten into a fight with someone and was bleeding.
“Sometimes, the hunger takes over… you can’t help but feed.” Sonny whispered as he stood. Giovanni knew the man was hungry. Sonny began to walk towards the door the man was just escorted out of but Giovanni grabbed his arm.
“Remember what I thought you? Control?”
“Fuck that.” Sonny said as he pulled himself from his friend. Sonny had cornered the male in the alley between the bar and a shop. Covering his mouth with his hand, he sank his teeth into his neck and quickly began to feed. Giovanni yanked Sonny away from him and had pinned Sonny against a wall.
“What the hell!” Giovanni said. Sonny glanced at the body that was on the ground before looking at his friend.
“What’s the difference between a soldier and a monster? Nothing. We don’t stop until we see blood.” Sonny said as he pushed Giovanni away. He wiped the blood around his mouth on the back of his hand before walking down the alley.
“Sonny, wait!” Giovanni called out but he didn’t turn around. He just kept walking home.
