Omfg my heart is breaking for hitman!Nick. He had all those years being kept out of your relationship with Sonny then thought he lost him then everything seemed to come together and there were presumably some good years but now it’s all a mess again. And he feels old. Does he come home? And how does Sonny cope with what Nick said (which held some harsh truths).

Does the reader get involved in trying to mend things? She must be annoyed they’re arguing again and upset Nick left? Plus how does she decide between comforting Sonny or Nick? So much angst, it’s why i come back.

Do you go after Nicky or stay with Sonny. What do you do when both are hurting so much??

Uhh merry Christmas mcfuckers / Nick doesn’t come home- in fact, he gets himself into some trouble //

After Nick storms out, Sonny is speechless. He picks up the ring Nick threw at his feet and pockets it. Defeat is the only way you can think of to describe the expression on his face, although it’s interspersed with pieces of anger and hurt because Nick was definitely out of line. Some of it was true enough, but bringing up what happened between them all those years ago when it still hurts Sonny every time he thinks about it was nothing but an intent to hurt him. That’s the problem with how well they know each other; they know what cuts the deepest.

“He’s coming back,” you say.

Even you don’t believe yourself.

Sonny walks over to the couch and throws himself down onto it with his face buried in the pillow. “I know. He has no money, nowhere to go, no weapon-” He lifts his face. “No weapon. I- I have to go after him-”

“He’s not going to listen to you or take anything you give him right now. He’s really angry.”

“Anger makes him reckless and even more of a little bitch than usual. Something’s going to happen to him.”

You know that the only way Sonny will calm down is if he knows Nick is safe, but Nick won’t be accepting any help from him right now. It’s up to you to fix this mess, but just this once, you’re getting really fucking tired of cleaning up after them because they’re both immature and temperamental.

“He’s a big boy, Sonny, he can take care of himself.”

“Doll, don’t quit on me too.”

His voice is so quiet. Broken. It’s enough that you sit down opposite him in the living room instead of going to sit in the bedroom by yourself. “I’m not going anywhere. And Nick isn’t quitting on you, he’s just blowing off steam. It’s what he always does, and he always comes back, yeah? Every time.”

“This time-”

“He’ll come back,” you interrupt firmly.

Nick doesn’t know where he’s going. He has no money, no apartment, no weapon, no clothes, no nothing except for his phone and his keys that he was lucky to have in the pocket of the sweatpants he yanked on before answering the door. No one else is really alive at eight in the morning, but those who brave the streets steer clear of him and his obvious injuries. Blood is starting to dry sticky on his face and the back of his neck, but he pretends not to feel it. If he doesn’t want to sleep on the streets where he’s an obvious target, he’ll have to find someone who’ll take him in. Olivia and Amanda will take Sonny’s side; they were always closer with him and now that he thinks about it, Nick said some really shitty things. That really only leaves three options. How sad is it that he only has two friends and a handful of enemies he might be able to grovel at enough to get what he wants.

Option number one, his father’s old syndicate. They’ll give him hell, but he won’t die there and there’s a minuscule chance he won’t get beat so badly he can’t see. Option number two, Peter. That might be his best option, but he’s really burned his bridges there and there’s no telling what Peter will do to you and Sonny when he no longer has to worry about Nick being a threat to Anna. Option number three, Dodds. Yes, Nick did abduct his fiance which led to Peter killing her. And yes, Dodds did hold Sonny for five years. And did something to him that scared Sonny so badly he scarred him severely. Which Nick’s temper simmers at the reminder of because Sonny didn’t trust him enough to tell him what happened.

He knows the address he decides on well enough to walk there, although it takes him all day and by the end he’s tired, hungry, thirsty, and out of breath. The gates in front of him are tall and imposing but they don’t matter as much as how upset he still is. Now, he’s made his choice, and he doesn’t doubt for a minute that it’ll break Sonny’s heart when he hears what he’s done. Good. He deserves it. Just before he presses the buzzer to request to be let in, his phone buzzes. An apology. He sneers as he challenges it, holds the expression as cold bubbles of text argue with him. It doesn’t matter that Sonny wants or needs him now. He’s tired of not being trusted.

Nick forces himself to take a deep breath and push his hair out of his face before he rings the buzzer.

Oh no!!!! What a stupid decision. He must know how it will hurt you as well as hurting Sonny. The hitman!au is a rollercoaster
