It’s been almost two months since you’ve talked to Peter. All your stuff was taken out of the apartment and now he was sitting at his desk just staring at divorce papers. He couldn’t believe that you had gone this far. A knock on the door brought Peter from his thoughts as Olivia had walked in.
“Sorry to interrupt you, Stone. I got that file you wanted on the victim.” Olivia said as she held it towards him. He nodded as he opened it and began to look it over.
“You have checked her again? Made sure everything is airtight?” Peter asked the brunette. She nodded as she glanced at the divorce papers on his desk.
“Trouble in paradise?” She asked him. Peter threw the file down and covered his face.
“You can say that. She got mad that I’ve been working a lot and haven’t had time for her. I’ve been trying to balance work, home and visiting Pam. When I get home, (Y/N)’s already sleeping.” Peter sighed as he pulled the papers off the desk and shoved them in a drawer.
“I know you love her and I know she loves you. Whenever she would come to visit you when you first moved here, you could see the love in her eyes. You need to take some time off, Stone. Fix things.” Olivia suggested. Peter nodded as he thanked the SVU Lieutenant and went to staring at the case file.
Peter still couldn’t focus. He kept seeing your face the night you walked out. The pain on you eyes as you stated at him about you left the apartment. As Peter looked at the picture on his desk, a smile crossing over his lips. It was from your wedding day. Smiling brightly up and Peter as he held you close against his body. He’d do anything to be able to hold you again. Peter couldn’t stand it anymore, he grabbed his jacket and put it on as he left his office to search for you.
Whenever you were stressed, you were always at the local cafe, sitting outside and enjoying your drink. You had your favorite book with you as you tried your best to focus on it. You just couldn’t. Your mind kept drifting to Peter. You love him deeply but you just couldn’t take it anymore. He threw himself into his work and you rarely saw him anymore. You missed when Peter would come home after a tough case and cuddle you. He’d tell you everyday how much he loves and needs you in his life. How happy he is with you. Eventually, you sat the chair in front of you being pulled out as someone sat across from you.
“Is this seat taken?” You slowly looked up to see Peter staring at you. You looked down at your book and pretended to pay attention to it.
“Go away, Peter. Unless you’re here with those signed papers?” It hurt for you to say those words. Peter sighed as he sat in the chair and sipped his coffee.
“I wanted to talk, okay? I’ve been talking to Jack and he said he’d cut my hours back, so we could spend more time together. I love you, so much. You’ve been with me since Chicago, moved here to the city with me and was with me the entire time my father was in the hospital.” Peter began to explain. You sighed as you closed your book and looked up at him.
“Cutting back your hours isn’t going to do much, Pete. I-I just want my husband back. The man bay made sure he would send me a text before court to make sure I’m alright, calling me during your recess or while you’re heading to the precinct or back to the office. I-I don’t want you just home, I need the little things in life. I want my husband back, Peter.” You said with a few tears in your eyes. Peter set his coffee down and grabbed your hands tightly in his.
“I know, sweetheart. I’m so, so sorry. I promise I’ll be a better husband. I’ll be home for dinner every night, I’ll help you cook, anything and everything you want. I don’t want to sign those papers. P-please don’t make me.” Peter said as his hands tightened their grip on yours. You sat there and thought for a moment before looking up at Peter’s green eyes.
“Are you off the rest of the day?” You asked. Peter chuckled and quickly shook his head.
“Someone else is currently working with the squad until I come back to work. We can do anything you want sweetheart.” Peter said with a smile you nodded and pulled your hands from his and stood.
“Let’s head home then… I made the bed this morning but I wouldn’t mind having to make it again…” You suggested. Peter chuckled as he stood and followed you down the sidewalk.
“Oh, I almost forgot. Here.” Peter stopped to pull your rings from his pocket. You smiled as you allowed your husband to slide them back on your finger before the two of you began to walk hand in hand back to your apartment.
