Can someone please give me advice on how to write smut and not sound like an android version of EL James?

Protips from your local smut bot:

  • The less euphemisms for penis, the better. And just don’t say penis in general it’s so fucking awkward (or schlong, or meat, or disco-stick, or anything of the sort)
  • That goes for any body part really
  • Put yourself in that moment, whether you’re a participant or a watcher, get in there and write down what happens
  • Don’t overthink. Write it as it comes to mind, then go back and fix anything that needs it.
  • If it’s POV it won’t be perfect grammar. Thoughts are streams and sharp and a mess
  • Normal people don’t usually dirty talk as much as most smut will have you believe
  • I have a list of sexy words and those are the ones I use to evoke a smutty feeling. Never underestimate the power of wet v moist, or needy v slutty. For the love of god never use the word “meat” to describe anything
  • Some people write smut better when they’re in the mood. If you gotta read a bunch of dirty slash fic or watch some porn to get in the right mindset, do it
  • Rely less on narration and more on feeling
  • This has gotten too serious so I’m gonna show myself out

Thank you so much, you are a saint
