Olivia hurried towards the ambulance, taking in her surroundings
as she lowered herself to clear the yellow tape. Onlookers had already began
lining the sidewalks trying to catch a glimpse of the scene that splayed across
the street, more worried about tweeting pictures of a body under a sheet than
asking if the driver was okay. The driver in this case, being Detective Sonny
Carisi.

“Carisi, are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” he responded even though he’d yet to check for
himself. His first instinct was to try and save the woman lying in the street,
not once finding himself concerned for his own wellbeing. “I tried to save her,
I did everything but-“

“You did everything you could, Carisi.” Liv said
sympathetically.

“Oh God, please tell me you didn’t call (Y/N),” Sonny huffed as
his mental fog began to clear and he took in his surroundings. “She’s going to
freak out you can’t call her.”

“She’s already on her way,” Amanda said as she sat next to him
in the ambulance, you were his emergency contact whether he listed it or not.
Considering you’d  been dating the
detective for a little over a year now, it would only make sense to call you
first.

“It’s just a scrape. Did you tell her it’s just a scrape?”

You heard Sonny’s voice as you rounded the back of the ambulance,
in the chaos of it all, the fact that he was talking meant he was still alive and
that’s the only thing you could wish for. The sight in front of you was enough
to bring you to your knees, but you forced a sense of composure for Sonny’s
sake. Blood has poured from the gash at the top of his head and caused his
silver hair to stain a dark red. Your eyes continued to trail further down and
saw that his shirt was covered in blood, in that moment you weren’t sure if it
was his blood or someone else’s. Your head began to spin and you hated that all
you could think was that he was wearing his favorite shirt. When everything
settled he’d be so upset that his favorite shirt was ruined.

From the moment you met, Sonny seemed to know you better than
you knew yourself. And in this moment, he was right. You had only been in front
of him for about five seconds, but your brain had already jumped to the worst
possible outcome. You were freaking out.

“Sonny,” you held back a sob as you placed your hand carefully
on the side of his face that wasn’t covered in blood.

“Baby, I’m fine.” Sonny relaxed into your hand as he looked up
at you. Amanda gave you a nod as she and Liv left to give you two moment
and walked towards the scene to talk details.

“You don’t look fine, what the hell happened?” You turned to see
the car, the front end smashed in. Sonny grabbed your arm, pulling you back to
look at him before you could see the woman lying on the ground.“I was in a car accident, but I’m okay.” You could practically
see the gears in his head spinning. He knew telling you the truth would only
make the situation worse, but he didn’t have it in him to ever lie to you. But,
at this point, the adrenaline was starting to wear off and the headache from
his concussion was starting to make his head pound.“He got a little banged up but nothing too bad,” the EMT spoke
behind him. To be honest, you hadn’t even noticed her sitting there because you
were so focused on Sonny. “What he needs now is some rest, he’s free to
go.”Sonny nodded, thankful that he didn’t have to explain what he’d
just gone through and that for now you wouldn’t know any of the details. You
agreed with the EMT, wanting nothing more than to have him home with you where
you knew he’d be safe. You helped steady him as he got out of the ambulance and
walked to towards your car. Sonny made sure he held the small of your back, not letting you watch what was unfolding behind you.

“Whatever happened, I’m just really glad that you’re okay,” you opened the passenger seat and watched him carefully sit down, wincing as the stiffness in his muscles he began to set in. As you sat in the driver’s seats you felt Sonny reach for cheek as he leaned over to kiss you, thankful that you came so quickly. You knew that it was going to take him a while to open about everything that had just happened, he took everything to heart and he tried to put on a brave face even if inside he was screaming.

“Let’s go home and get you cleaned up, okay?” Sonny nodded in agreement as you put your car in reverse.

“This was my favorite shirt, you know.”

“I know baby, I know.”
